Who are we?

The Christmas Concert is an annual musical event in hoping to promote the music culture in the Markham Community. This event is organized by the Dorcas Centre for the benefit of amateur musicians in all ages and grades. Dorcas Centre is a non-profit Christian faith-based community centre, as an auxiliary establishment of Rhenish Church of Canada, dedicated to serve our community as our mission is to “Serve the Community and Transform Lives”. The theme for 2018 is called “The Sound of Joy,” it is our hope that this musical event would bring a joyful experience to all participants as well as the community.

Who Can Enter…

This year, the concert is limited to only piano and strings. For prep to Grade 4, each performance is limited to 3 minutes, and higher grades to 7 minutes. Same as in previous years, performance piece(s) shall be chosen from the current Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus or Conservatory Canada Syllabus, except those marked “Own Choice”. To facilitate better program planning, this year’s deadline has been moved ahead to October 14th and we reserve the right to decline registrations once the maximum of participants is reached.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Each participant or group will play their prepared pieces according to their grade and receive verbal and written feedback from Ms. Ella Poret, the Artistic Director & Founder of the North York Music Festival, as well as a senior examiner and festival adjudicator.

No Need to Fear…

The Christmas concert aims to provide a friendly and supportive platform for the participating   musicians to share their joy and excitement in music making. We hope this event enables participants to learn from each other; and provides a bridge from lessons and examinations to performing confidently in public.

Music for Your Ears

We sincerely invite teachers to encourage your students participate in this exciting event. May this event be a channel to bring the hope and joy of Christmas to all who comes.
